The point is not the object. It is what the object does to the wall behind it. Lit, the figure throws a shadow two or three times its own size, and the pumpkin's face carries across the plaster in a way a printed decoration never will. Turn the room lights off and the whole thing moves slightly as the flames do.

Use real tealights rather than the battery kind if you can. The shadow only moves if the flame does, and the movement is the whole reason to own it.

It reads as Halloween in October and as gothic the rest of the year, which is why we kept it in After Dark rather than putting it away on the first of November.
